The 21st season of the California Symphony promises to be out of this world with classical masterworks, splendorous modern works, amazing guest artists and the unveiling of our newest Young American Composer-in-Residence!

Meet the Musicians
Meet some of the many faces of the California Symphony! A half-hour prior to every concert on the first floor of the Lesher Center for the Arts, in the Bedford Gallery, you will have the opportunity to meet and learn more about the special artists that make up the California Symphony.

PROGRAM ONE: Reach the Outer Limits! SUN., OCT. 14 & TUES., OCT. 16, 2007
This concert set is sure to be out of this world - especially with the performance of Holst's The Planets, and the infamous Leonard Bernstein's Symphonic Dances from West Side Story. Performing Efrem Zimbalist's rare gem "Phantasy on Rimsky-Korskakov's le Coq d"or" is the California Symphony's Concertmaster, Roy Malan.

PROGRAM TWO: Romance and Reunion SUN., JAN. 27 & TUES., JAN. 29, 2008
The California Symphony and Joyce Yang will reunite once again on stage - Our long-time subscribers may remember the incredible performance with Joyce Yang when she was merely 13 years old in November of 1999. Since then she has done remakable things including taking the Silver medal as the yougest participant of the 2005 Van Cliburn Competition. Don't miss this opportunity to hear the Rachmaninoff 2nd Piano Concerto!
Also on this program is Beethoven's intensly dramatic Leonore Overture No. 3 and Kodály's, Háry János Suite, which according to Kodály is "the personification of the Hungarian story-telling imagination.

PROGRAM THREE: Passion of Movement SUN., MAR. 9 & TUES., MAR. 11, 2008
Program Three will indeed be a passionate and moving evening. Another rare performance gem, by Mauro Guiliani, will be performed by 14 year-old Guitarist Travis Johnson. Originally performed in Vienna in 1808, this piece met great applause and was said that such an outstanding composition had never before been performed for guitar and orchestra!

PROGRAM FOUR: Pleasures and Perils SUN., MAY 4 & TUES., MAY 6, 2008
The final program, Pleasures and Perils, has it all! Featuring the newly appointed 2007-2010 Young American Composer-in-Residence and the splendorous Camina Burana, covering love, lust, the pleasures of drinking and the heightened moods evoked by springtime with 200+ musicians on stage. Truly a concert not to miss!

All performances are held at the Hofmann Theater in the Dean Lesher Regional Center for the Arts in Walnut Creek. Sunday matinee performances begin at 4 p.m.; Tuesday night performances begin at 7:30 p.m.
